client in the NT 4.0 ResKit.)

c:\NTRESKIT>timeserv /?
TimeServ [-automatic]|[-manual]|[-update]

What does the automatic do then?

You can run NTP client for NT as service, in another word "automatically".
Check NT resource kit.

I suppose in a purely technical sense that's true.  However that will only
work for a login script or manually setting the time.  I was referring to
things that use Network Time Protocol and synchronize the time
*automatically* at given intervals.
