A potential weakness of Zone Alarm is during that period of time before it
starts up. Zone Labs even states in their documentation that programs that
connect to the internet before ZA starts up may not be blocked by the
firewall, which is why they suggest that you to set it to start
automatically on bootup (from the ZA control panel). That is fine, but what
is to prevent another app from starting before it (even when you do have ZA
in the startup group) and begin malicious data transfers that ZA might
therefore not be able to report to the user?

Is there any way to force Windows to start applications in a particular
order? Does HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
have any ordering switches and/or does some other Windows start-up mechanism
have priority over this group? The registry entries appear in alphabetical
order, but do they start that way?

I know I read about this earlier in the year as a possible vulnerability
with ZA, but I can't find it right now. The write-up didn't offer a solution
though anyway.

Subject: Loading the ZoneAlarm firewall early

Hello,

I would like to have my personal firewall loaded as soon as possible when my
2K box boots up. I have searched the Zone Labs for a command line options
but could not find anything. What is available in 2K? Do I use the win.ini
file to load it? This seems simple to do, but I can not figure it out.
