Hi there,

Something which I found very useful for sharing files between people
without the need for them to have shell access to the machine was the
use of proftpd with a mysql or postgresql backend. I chose to use
mysql because I know it better, but I am sure progresql will do just
fine.
You will need to recompile the proftpd with SQL access. All the
instructions can be found on the actual proftpd website. I believe
that's www.proftpd.org, but I could be wrong (no way to check right
now, but I am sure you can google your way to it.).
It works like a charm for me. All the users are chrooted to the
directory of my choice (location also stored in the db), so there is
not much chance of them getting to the files you don't want them to
have access to.

If you need help configuring it, drop me a line, but the instructions
are actually pretty straight forward and supplied on the website.

Gr,
Xander
