I think you may have your products mixed up.

Norton Anti-Viurs for Exchange has two current products: 2.1 for Exchange
5.x, and Symantec AV/Filtering 3.0 for Exchange 2000. The product I think
you are referring to is Norton Anti-Virus for Internet Gateways, which is
independent from your particular email platform and is currently at version
level 2.5.

That particular program is configured via a web interface, which is by
default on port 8080 (I believe). That's what you are seeing open. That
port number can be changed to any you wish by logging into the program and
choosing configuration - admin (or something similar to that), and then
specifying the port number you wish in the space provided. I don't believe
you can shut this web interface off completely without shutting down the
product.

If I remember correctly, during the setup of the software, you are allowed
to specify a list of trusted networks or ip's that are allowed to connect to
the web interface. You may want to investigate that if you are particularly
worried about unauthorized access.

Good Luck!
Jason

Subject: Norton Antivirus for Exchange (Port 8080)

We are currently running 2.5 norton antivirus for Exchange. Nessus
reports that port 8080 is open and might be possible to make this web server

execute. Now, can I close off this port? Has anyone else seen this???

     Thanks for your help...

             Martin
