thanks for all your input i tried chattr -i iptables - no error message still cannot delete rm -f iptables doesnt work. says cannot unlink iptables permission denied i also tried rpm -e of course at the start if i type iptables -L it complains of some iptables.o somewhere i tried chmod +w iptables tried booting thru linux rescue disk mounting under sysimage etc & deleting no joy can u help regards dp
