Justin,

I think the comparison you are drawing is unfair because we are talking
about two OS' that are not even on the same playing field. MS is a HUGE
hacking target because of it's availability on the Internet. How many
websites do you know are hosted publicly on a Mac platform? How many
enterprises run Mac as a Server/Workstation solution exclusively?

The answer to your question has different considerations. Is Mac more
secure? Probably, because Mac is not a full enterprise solution. Yeah I
know, I'm making some generalizations, but it is the overall truth.

Since Linux has grown in popularity, so have the announcements from Red
Hat's bug tracking lists as well as the other distro's.

So, with all of that in mind, the OS "out of the box" is really not secure.
These packages are put together so someone with little to no computer
experience can install the operating system. So the OS is only as secure as
you make it.

By the way, didn't want to make it sound like I was jumping on your
question. But I wanted to be objective and honest.

Good luck!

Bejon

Subject: Apple vs. MS - more secure?

Just curious what you all think about the new Mac OS X. Which is more
secure out-of-box; Windows XP or Mac OS X?
