The next question I would ask of you is "Why do you feel you need a
DMZ?".  Others have replied with the definition (and  basic layouts) of
a DMZ. While you're certainly looking at securing things, your posting
appears to be (as others have noted) confusing  the terms DMZ and
firewall. The next step for you is to answer the question I've posed
(for yourself and your boss). If you don't have publicly accessible (by
design) servers, then a DMZ can become a liability rather than an asset.
However, if you do have web servers, mail servers, news servers, etc.,
then figure out who should access them, how they should be accessed and
how (or even if) those servers need to communicate with the rest of your
network. Then you can begin researching and designing a reasonably
secure network *and* have ample justification to give your boss.
