Thanks Alan and Duc for your thoughtful replies... I will sift through the
information and suggested URL's tomorrow. I appreciate the care and time
that you've put in to give my question some personal attention.
Alan, responding to your questions... I don't have a specific business
purpose in mind, but do want a domain name for several personal reasons. I
believe that having my own domain name will allow me greater flexibility
down the road... I can change ISP's (park my domain name with a new ISP),
but not lose "my" e-mail address in the shuffle.
My domain will be "mine" so to speak... and will have a personal flair to
it. (and I will forever lose the "ix.netcom.com" nonsense that is part of
my current e-mail address) I can publish a personal web page that, again,
doesn't have some goofy address, but has a more personalized URL. I think
that I will have more control... plus future expansion possibilities (it
could develop into a business purpose down the road).
Although there are other ways to accomplish the above, I still want to have
my own domain name just for the fun of it. It will be an interesting
learning experience as well... and I'm looking forward to it.
I don't know about who to list as the Host... I presume that I can change
hosts as often as I like? The information I submit on the original
application, I assume, is available for revision or edit later? Or is there
a potential problem here... are things locked in and hard to change? Or is
there a specific strategy I should be aware of up front? Do I really want
or need to know who will be doing the hosting before I submit my
application? I could just enter "netcom.com" for now... spend a few days
looking for my *real* host... and then change things later, no?
*** I've already found a domain name that I like... and I want to "lock it
in" as soon as possible, so now I am feeling a sense of urgency about this
whole thing.***
Any guidance will be very much appreciated! Thank you!
