There is much written about standard deviation and how it relates to the heart rate when in sepsis, but where can this information be found? As an emergency nurse I do not know what the numerical range for 2 standard deviations outside of a normal heart rate for an adult is? Or for children? Can someone explain this or provide some reference material that discussing what these values are?
Additionally how would one determine what value represents a 10% increase in bands? I believe it is important for nurses to know these values so that sepsis can be recognized promptly. Thank you, Shelley Storozuk
