Take a look at dbmail (http://www.dbmail.org/) They have an imap implementation on top of a database.
Is there IMAP code in the CVS? I didn't see it last time I looked.

If I was to take some GPLed C code (from dbmail) and tried to shoehorn into James would this cause some sort of a licensing conflict. IT would be a radical rewrite so that C code would be more like a guide or a howto.
