Spring promotes object-centric view on the world while SOA service (in Java or in C#) is ia set of processes and procedures. Since JavaEE 5 practicaly overlaps the Spring but still exist as distributed component-centric platform, I prefer JavaEE 5 for design while Spring may be used for implementation of some Service components.
