I'm not sure we are getting hung up on that but......
We should care about it because the closer we can get to presenting in
implementation what business people talk about/use in practice the more
likely we are to have happy and productive users.

Well I think some people on the list do entertain the idea that business
people will do this sort of thing for themselves......
Regardless, I think analysis actually involves both business and tech,
every time I've seen it be the sole responsibility of tech has lead to
mis-interpreted requirements, un-necessary code, overly complex generic
solutions etc.

No, I think this discussion is about various people working out their
misunderstandings or wrong assumptions.
I've observed mostly on this conversation and I can see some very
polarized views ("it must be done this way!") which aren't practical in
the real world.
I've also seen a number of discussions about the merits/appropriateness
of some implementation approach or another which clearly show some
number of the participants are missing critical knowledge, understanding
or experience in the area they're debating. This isn't actually a
problem except that some of these participants seem to view themselves
as experts in these areas.
The same sorts of tensions can clearly be seen in some of the debate
over on TheServerSide re: SOA so it's not a problem unique to this group.
