Hi,
I worked on Sun Web Server (SWS) and here is my (belated) response.
SWS is designed for high performance and high scalability needs and
it has got excellent connection management capabilities. It implements
servlets (JSDK2.0) using an in process JVM (supports both 1.1 and 1.2
VMs). It also supports running multiple servlet engines in the same
server process so that each virtual host can implement its own security
(sandboxing) policy.
Since the release of SWS2.1 in March first week we worked on servlet
performance and we are very happy with the current version. SWS servlet
engine is really fast (sorry no numbers) now and the performance fixes
along with bug fixes are slated to be released as a patch in the next
few weeks.
I am also including a blurb on SWS for your perusal.

There have been three major releases of SWS so far, SWS1.0, SWS2.0 and SWS2.1.
Before I explain the salient features of these products I would like to
say that all these servers have very high performance and are very highly
scalable. We have added lots of features to these servers which make
them very feature rich.
SWS1.0:
------
This is what you call a bare bones webserver, it has the following features.
* CGI
* SSI (Server Side Includes)
* Access control (Basic, MD5 authentication)
* SSL (including SSL3.0)
* Logging (CLF, ELF)
* GUI administration
* virtual hosting
* Excellent performance (http://www.specbench.org/osg/web96/results/res97q2/)
Released in June 97 as freely downloadable product, it's no longer available
for public download.
SWS2.0: (http://www.sun.com/solaris/ds/ds-sunwebserver/)
------
This is a major overhaul of SWS1.0 with lots of new features. Runs on
Solaris 2.6, 7.
* Servlet support (JSDK1.1)
* SSL 3.0 with Verisign certificate-based security
* Full HTTP 1.1 compliance (content negotiation)
* Graphical Web-based and/or command-line driven administration for
easy access and configuration (for a screen shot please take a look at
http://www.sun.com/solaris/ds/ds-sunwebserver/swseas2.gif)
* Frontpage support for publishing pages (only on SPARC, not on X86)
* Powerful performance, even under the heaviest loads
Released in July 98, the release vehicles are:
* Solaris for ISPs (SISP1.0)
(http://www.sun.com/solaris/isp/)
* Solaris Easy Access Server (SEAS2.0)
(http://www.sun.com/solaris/easyaccess/)
SWS2.1:
------
This release supports the following new features and runs on Solaris 2.6, 7.
* Improved servlet support (JSDK2.0), also runs on JDK1.2
More servlet performance fixes slated to be released as a patch.
* API through the use of Solaris Doors for generating dynamic content.
This API is fast and safe.
* Solaris Network Cache Accelerator (SNCA1.0) support: To deliver a
*blow out* performance for static pages, available only on Solaris 7.
Check out http://www.specbench.org/osg/web96/results/res98q4/ for
more info.
* High scalability (thousands of virtual hosts on a single server).
Released in Feb 99, the release vehicles are:
* Solaris for ISPs (SISP2.0)
(http://www.sun.com/solaris/isp/sisp2/)
* Solaris Easy Access Server (SEAS3.0)
* To be announced.
