I tend to agree with this view 101%. It looks to me that requirements for a web designer are: a) must have an HTML editor, b) must have less than 2.5 grams of brain, c) knowlwdge of HTML is strictly prohibited. There is an inherent conflict of interest there. Web designers charge per web page while dynamic web pages minimize maintenance cost (e.g., changed based on database content). Recently I started with a web designer early in the project. The produced design would basically eliminate any dynamics in the pages and would need the designer for the life time of the product. The desifner-would-be-artist did not want to hear about dynamic pages so I dismissed him. The other designer unintentionally damaged Java Script in the templste I gave him. So I ended up debugging his design. What do I do now? I finish functionally the whole product, the designer does some make-up on fully functional samples of dynamic pages, and then I return html tags into my code. May be I just had bad luck with designers and may be I am too frustrated with them but such is life. The problem is, and it seems like there is agreement on this, that it really doesn't seem to make the JSP easier to read or use. A designer would still have to understand HTML markup and basic JSP to appreciate and use the templates easily. This is not criticism just my viewpoint.
