I just started the package manager and it shows I have appmenu-gtk 
0.2.1-0ubuntu3 installed.  Is there another package I should add to it?  
Perhaps indicator-appmenu-tools in addition to indicator-appmenu and 
indicator-applet-appmenu which are already installed too?

I will try creating a new account with the wizard after I try comparing 
your config with mine to see if I can tweak it.
