OK, my premise was wrong (based only on what Dermot had typed).  (Well, 
we could
get lost in distro vs. community vs. maintainers.)  If this is a fairly 
wide practice, go for
it.  I was just concerned about being "odd man out" and the core 
maintainers not caring.
