Sorry to be slow to reply. I think it was somewhere off:

I must have mis-interpeted, not sure. There was a big GRID which talked 
about SFW and/or Companion CD somewhere. I think I may have misinterpeted 
SFW for Companion CD, since I have always referred to that as such.

As of Friday it looks like gcc-avr will be the package I'll work on.

That's the cross compiler for the Arduino.

I believe it will go into contrib, not sfwnv, but that is not 
completely clear.
