My experience -- and the math -- suggest that adding 1/4 to 1/5 of the weight saved in the shaft back into the head will preserve the swingweight. May not achieve what you want, but that is the transformation between shaft weight and head weight for constant swingweight and length. > I'm assuming > you had to add a bunch of lead to the 45" SRV/PE to get to your D range but > just how much ? Absolutely none. From a swingweight point of view, an inch of length is worth about 30 grams of shaft weight. So it is reasonable to have: * PE @ 45" not need extra weight for D-0. * TT @ 44" does need extra weight for D-0. But remember that PE @ 44" will need even more extra weight. > I might get the 250cpm's out of either the Reg or the A (7" > parallel) but wouldn't there be a difference in feel and/or flex point? (SK > says the REG has a mid kick and the A a mid-low kick) OR- would tipping the > A to a soft reg (maybe 3"- +?) change the kick up to be closer to the Reg ? I don't know what it does to the kick point specifically, but trimming away too much of the 7" parallel tip will make it feel distinctly "boardy". Several ShopTalkers have commented on this, how the same SK model with the same frequency, but one made from "S" and one from ["R"? "A"?] had rather different feels. Trimming an inch or two seems to be just fine (for a driver -- you can probably get away with more for a fairway wood), but 4"-5" seems to kill the nice kick feel. > You may be able to answer this in a short- "just use the TT80" but I didn't > get that > sentiment from your first reply. I didn't express that sentiment in my first reply. But I do feel it. However, different folks like different shafts. I know a guy (you know who you are :-) who insists on the EI-70, which I HATE to work with. But it is a good weight and balance for your 44" driver -- if you like that shaft, and don't mind spending extra, and don't mind working with it. > And then there is the "Lite Revolution" @ > 66 gr. which > I've also heard good stuff about----------- OK, WHAT IS YOUR GOAL? You keep talking about shafts that are much lighter than they need to be for a 44" driver. Why? We can probably have a more productive discussion if that is on the table. > Applauses for Rich Beem today--- Wasn't that impressive? He didn't "melt down" until #18, when it was OK; he knew he had three putts to use and used them all. I kept waiting for him to crumble. The announcers kept waiting for him to crumble. I don't doubt that Tiger was waiting as well. Two clues: * Beem's eagle at 11(?) seemed to catch Tiger completely by surprise and unnerve him momentarily. He must have expected Beem to be coming back, not forging ahead. * Tiger admitted in an interview afterwards, "I told Stevie [at 15] that if we birdied in we'd win. We birdied in. We didn't win." That arithmetic, if you work the numbers (and Tiger was a business major; he knows how to work the numbers) required Beem to give up two strokes from where he stood at that point -- or at least one for a playoff. Instead, he added a stroke to his cushion. That was an impressive display of cool, actually exuberant golf under what should have been very stressful conditions. Cheers! DaveT
