It was "shorts" weather in Michigan yesterday (45 and sunny) so I wandered over to the demo day a large local driving range/golf shop was running in Ann Arbor.

What I experienced should strike fear in the hearts of anybody trying to make a living selling assembled component clubs.

I hung out at the Ping booth (but each OEM demo area was the same).
The Ping guy had 50-60 demo drivers in a variety of lofts (8-12 deg) with a variety of shafts (Blue, Pro Launch, and a Ping shaft) in a variety of flexes. The Ping guy would suggest a driver then switch out different combinations until the golfer got what he was looking for.
They also had a launch monitor setup if you wanted to stand in line a bit.
The new Ping G2 driver they were demoing is $299 retail.
I think the OEM's have finally figured out what the consumer wants and is offering products at a very competitive price point with custom options available (many at no extra charge). Callaway's new 454 driver is also priced at $299, which seems to be where most of the new drivers are priced.

In comparison, the MAP on a KZG Gemini is something like $350. MAP on a Nakashima driver around $399.
