John This is more common than you think. Without seeing the swing I would guess that his motion is more up and down than around the spine thus creating a steeper angle of attack, also if he is hitting at the ball without completing his rotation his hands are probably collapsing at impact and creating more dynamic loft for his current driver. If these conditions are true then there is no equipment change that can help. I remember one nationwide tour player who hit the ball consistently 300 yards but was not happy with his spin numbers and the guys at Ping told him he had to change the swing to get the numbers down.
