You know with that swing speed the kid would be better off with a set of Project X's instead of regular rifles. He is going to possibly get some ballooning with regular or flighted rifles. I do mean a real set of project X's not the junk Callaway is trying to pass off as Project X's nowadays.

I really hate using taper tips, but I didn't have a choice in this case. I've noticed the same thing that Robert pointed out in that when I measure 5.0 and 5.5 shafts, they seem to fall in ranges that I expect. But starting at about 6.0 and up, they seem to really jump up considerably. Admittedly, I don't do too many sets over 6.0, and this was the first set of 7.5 I did. This kid I reshafted for is a real player though - 0.5 index, measured his swing speed at 118 on an easy swing, 123 on a normal swing, and 128 when he put two cheeks into it. As a total side question, do either of the two new clubmaker's associations offer the same type of PCS equalizer system? ---- Allen Humphrey <sloswingsp...@yahoo.com> wrote: > Scott...you using taper tips unless you reamed them out....the butt cpms > might or might not jump depending on what length shaft you were provided.. When you get up in the 6.0 and up range the curve gets distorted using a 5 inch clamp and the shorter clubs bounce way up in frequency. I have a Rifle chart and a 7.5 at 39 inches should start at 309 and each club should be 4 cycles apart. You will not get good readings with a 5 inch clamp. Especially at 7.5, the reason is you get to far into the butt with the short irons. You need to use a 2.5 inch clamp. If you don't have one you can measure to length then mark and clamp the shaft 2.5 inches shorter than cut length and place that mark at the front of the clamp. The 5" clamp values run + 17 over the 2.5" clamp values. Since yr set is 'flighted'....I'm guessing you have 8.0 s[ ?] in the 3.4s: 7.5s in the 5, 6.7.and 7.0 in the 8, 9 and w's. Also depends if they are pre-TT shafts... I used to have a great one, but through the magic of computers it is MIA. I have another one but I've never been happy with it or thought it was accurate. The reason I'm asking for all this is I've had two sets of rifle shafts recently that seem to measure at least a full flex stiff, if not more. Last night I reshafted a set of PING I3 blades with flighted 7.5 and got the following. Just curious to know if this is where they should be or not. The clubs are all D5-6 swingweight: 4 - 39" 335 cpm 5 - 38.5 339 cpm 6 - 38" 342 cpm 7 - 37.5" 352 cpm 8 - 37" 357 cpm 9 - 36-5/8" 359 cpm p - 36.5" 359 cpm Thanks, Scott -- Shoptalk ** Sponsored by the new Aldila Voodoo.
