Legality for the hackers I often made clubs for seldom was an issue. 15 - 18 clubs in the bag, doublefaced chippers, illegal grips and heads, illegal balls, etc. So what? That's the way the guys played the game with their regular friends. Cheating? "Big deal", they said. "We're all carrying illegal equipment. It's our business, not anybody else's". Preferred lies, 4 foot gimmies, rooties, kick it out of divots, practice swings in bunkers and water hazards, "hey, that's the way we play, how does that affect you"? We can moralize but that's not an uncommon thing among non-tournament guys - at least in my experience. Speaking of double faced chippers, how about the Acushnet "Bullseye" putter of years ago? That was a two faced club and perfectly legal. I played one for many years. It was a great little putter, especially on quick greens. T

Ciao, Marcello 2009/8/1 Tom Flanagan <tflans...@hotmail.com> We used to call them "jiggers" or "chippers". 7 or 8 iron length, 8 - 9 iron loft, wide sole, relatively heavy weights, sometimes with a putter grip. I have a couple of them in my pile of cast-offs. They even came double-faced - illegal but my father-in-law had one and used it to great effect. Every one I've seen was a "off-brand" from component catalogs. I assembled several over a fairly short period of time for some higher handicap guys who had troubles with the "flippy wrist syndrome". Use a putting grip around the green and "jigger" the ball up to the hole. They work.
