Thanks Roy. I'll give this a try. I hated using a lie board.

I had one of those old Dynacraft black plastic lie boards and put one of my patented ugly swings on it and smashed the board to smithereens. You may have guessed that with a swing like that, a correct lie isn't my number one concern.

I prefer to put a stripe on a ball with a sharpie and sit the ball down with the stripe facing the club face at impact and pointing straight up or perpendicular to the ground or sole at impact. Hit the shot then look at the transfer on the face to see if it is straight up and down or not. If it is at an angle adjust until it is straight up and down and the ball is going at the target.

Measuring Lie
I saw this post at an online forum and wonder if there is a new method I've missed out on (besides a lie board) to get a lie reading?

I don't mean to get off topic, but a loft/ lie board does not work accurately. To get a true lie reading, you have to get the reading at contact. The lie boards are obsolete. The shaft deflects as much as 2.5 degrees (in either direction) immediately after contact, and the lie board gives a reading after contact. Furthermore... irons have different sole properties and the leading edge on some grinds don't line up with scoring lines.

So to sum this up... if you get fit using a lie board... you aren't getting fit at all!
