In emacs, I simply ^X 2 (open a second 'window') and resize the upper window to 
just show the column headings. The bottom window can then be scrolled and the 
headings are always in view at the top of the screen. Problem is that I widen 
some of the columns and now the heading won't fit on the screen unless I use a 
very small font.
