ah, that'd provide an explanation
I'd 'imported'
USE_RT_NAMES=Yes
from prior configs, and (likely) had never touched
/etc/iproute2/rt_tables
which was autogenerated -- since I'd HAD
KEEP_RT_TABLES=No
there, originally.
a couple of months ago, I'd toggled that on the old config to
KEEP_RT_TABLES=Yes
which never complained, as
/etc/iproute2/rt_tables
was happy.
on import to _this_ config ... the default/installed
/etc/iproute2/rt_tables
lacked the right contents, since mods were off.
So, this works,
USE_RT_NAMES=Yes
KEEP_RT_TABLES=No
auto-updating the rt_tables file ...
TL;DR: pebkac!
