Usually it's quite easy to upgrade libraries/apps in OE, but lot of apps
don't have some maintainer and if there is nobody in need of newer one,
it stays older.

There is no such thing as base OS = Angstrom. OE provides metadata for
all sorts of apps/libs and distro maintainers picks/adds whatever we
need. But yes we're pretty close to Angstrom with our needs (mostly
because Angstrom is one of best maintained distros in OE).

If you need newer gphoto + deps, try to check how bitbake recipe in OE
looks (sometimes recipe for newer version is just cp and checksum
update) and send us a git patch:

Or try to motivate one of SHR/OE maintainer to need newer gphoto (ie
show your code :)). (It's much harder to test something I'm not
interested in or/and using it).
