gphoto was a specific app i was interested in using for that one
project, but more generally there are a lot of apps (around 45,000)
that it's be very useful to have access to. i'm not sure i have the
time to send a git patch for all of them

maybe it's easier to move the mountain to mohammed, and re-package shr
apps for debian
