Precedence: bulk 700th AIRBORNE TROOP FROM KOSTRAD LAND IN BAUCAU BAUCAU, (MateBEAN, 18/9/99). An Indonesian Navy ship was reported to have docked at the Laga Harbour, Wednesday (15/9), landing an estimated 3,000 shock troops from the 700th Airborne (Linud), KOSTRAD (Army Strategic Reserves), according to a report filed by the MateBEAN reporter from Baucau, East Timor. According to several people who witnessed the arrival of the Linud 700 troops, they were picked up by TNI vehicles upon landing and are to be positioned in areas that have been Falintil bases. "There is a real possibility that they will be deployed to Uaimori, Viqueque, one of the Falintil areas. If that is what they do, this will mean a deluge of blood for ordinary people, because Uaimori now shelters thousands of people who have sought refuge in that area," said a MateBEAN source. The Linud 700 were the first attack forces and were responsile for the attack on Gunung Matebean in l976. In that operation, hundreds of East Timorese were killed. "The Linud 700 is extremely cruel compared to other units. The Linud 700 are based in Ujung Pandang [South Sulawesi]," the source added.*** ---------- SiaR WEBSITE: http://apchr.murdoch.edu.au/minihub/siarlist/maillist.html
