I just got a new mb and processor (Celeron 300a w/ ABit mb) and am having
problems with X freezing as soon as I start it. It switces to graphics
mode, gives me a mouse cursor, and freezes hard enough that I can't get
out of it. The mouse cursor doesn't move; C-A-bs does not work (Dontzap
is commented out); C-A-Fx doesn't switch to another vt; only the reset key
gets me out.

I'm pretty confident in my card and monitor setup, as they have not
changed. I've heard that mouse problems can cause XFree86 to freeze. I
had to have my mb change the address of one of the com ports due to an
address collision w/ my modem. gpm works. In XF86Setup, the part that
tracks mouse movement and shows you clicking buttons works. It's a serial
mouse. Tonight I'll try pulling out my modem.

Any ideas? I'd love to have X again.

TIA,
