Well, the screensaver wasn't running and my screensaver is a blank screen. I
use xdm, but I hadn't even exitted X. I just logged out. (I exited
WindowMaker, which is supposed to give me an xdm login window.) Then the
numlock, capslock, scroll-lock flashed and I saw a memory count. (instead of
the xdm login) Taral: I did use linux single as well. Sorry for putting linux
1 in my message. I wasn't really thinking about my wording as I wrote that
message. Actually, I'm getting the same symptoms now (X=~50% cpu) b/c I just
came out of suspend mode. (I compiled 2.2.3 w/ apm support and yesterday
I installed apmd. Could this have anything to do w/ it?) Also: I have 4
little applets on my screen (time, cpu, ethernet, memory use, battery status)
that update every few seconds. When I come out of suspend, if they try to
"catch up" for the time when I was in suspend could that increase X's cpu
usage? (I'm using top for my info btw.) Now X is down to ~ 13%. Is that
normal on a P-200/64mram 4mg vram? I have 400 bogomips fwiw which is normal
for a p-200. I did manage to mount linux in rw w/ my rh boot disk last night.
(I know I should have realized that before, but I was a little drunk and the
obvious didn't occur to me.) The problem is solved. I just want to know why
this happened. It seems like very windows-95-like behavior.
