Yep .com wins every time. Short is good, so are plain words (max two, keep total letters short) that people know how to spell - even if it is a little long - because it passes the 'crowded bar/pub/restaurant' shout test.
I use domaintyper.com because it is near real-time and it also generates good hacks like delicious originally used.
