I am getting the urge to replace my HDD on this machine - which is a dual boot
Fedora Core 1 and Windows XP.

The last time I did this I merely migrated all the files to the new (current)
HDD using linux commands that I read up on the net and cannot recall now. The
Windows copy was particularly sweet - the OS did not even know that it was
sitting somewhere else and booted first time.

This time I need to install a different version of Linux - or Fedora < higher
number > because I need new features currently absent from this
installation.

But I want all my files intact.

So how do I do that?

Can my kmail archives survive a change to Ubuntu or something?

What Linux should I install (for a user who is more dumb than smart).
