Longer means higher ppm means bigger particles. Once you get to about 5 ppm we find that additional ppm almost all goes into bigger particles, not more particles. Maybe your problem is allergies instead of an infection, in which case the CS might not work for this. I find that the relief is almost instaneous when use as a nasal spray for sinus infections. Another possibility is that the nasal passages are swollen, and not allowing the spray to penetrate into all areas. That is why I mix 1/4 nasal decongestant with 3/4 CS when I use it.
