well, not exactly. The Tan Tiens are energy centers in the body, they
correspond with the chakras. The lower tan tien is the storehouse for
the energy of the whole body. It has to do with the "electrical" system
in the body- not the nervous system. What Wayne is referring to is
some good research on the nervous system that has found that there are
more serotonin receptors in the gut than there are in the brain. So, it
follows that if a person is depressed, it would make more sense to work
on the digestion (quality of food and minerals), optimize that, than to
take meds to correct it. I was, in fact told this by a prominent brain
specialist I saw back when I was impaired from the mold.

It is also known as the Tan or Dan Tien.

Older Japanese people strongly believe in the power of "haragei," which
might be loosely translated as "stomach mind" or something along those
lines. I once read a fascinating English language book on this topic.
Young Japanese seem to know nothing about it this idea. I've asked on
several occasions and get blank stares usually.
Just checking now, I am surprised to find something about on Wikipedia:

Still learning more about this myself, but it may be connected to your
idea.
