I had to drop gmail because they forced me to stop using my legit email
return address and to use a bogus one, which I not only did not want to
do but is also against Federal law. Actually they started replacing my
email address with a bogus one when I would send my outgoing mail
through them. I now send mail through a smtp server in England.

Okay, I need to be walked through this one. I've been looking for
something that you have described. I want my internet privacy as well,
and might be willing to pay, if its affordable, and even better, if I
can have all of our home computers hooked up the same way. I'm already
overseas, in Germany, but I doubt, that your server is even in the EU.
I've tried tunnels before, even paid money, but I had so many
problems, I stopped using it. The free ones are lagging... and I'm
also ready to lose gmail. I should check out what you use... I did try
hushmail, but the password thing drove me nuts.

Gmail is garbage, they read all Gmail accounts, zero privacy..
Dump it.. Every email you send through Gmail basically has the
address to your home on it in the header. I pay extra to have my
email hosted on an overseas server, my headers scrubbed, and to
top it off I use a mutated VPN tunnel with a 2048-Bit encryption
key that is re-keyed every few weeks. Why make it easy for them,
right?
