Maybe for pasteurized milk this is ok, but I only drink raw milk and it is
my understanding that this will kill the beneficial microbes in the raw
milk.

That's true. When raw milk sits out (or is in the refrigerator for weeks),
it usually ferments naturally into something delicious. That's because raw
milk is a living food.
