Maintaining hydration.  Avoid caffiene, alcohol, stuff like that.

Also, get plenty of collagen.  Bone marrow is a very good source of this.
You can do bone broths, stuff like that.  Some years ago we did an
experiment on a now defunct alt med forum.  We used knox gelatin.  I think
we took one package a day.  It might be one package twice a day.  But after
one month, a number of people had significant improvements, as far as
vertebral disc regeneration.  (Purely going from self reports, as far as
decreased pain and whatnot, increased functionality.)  It turned out that
the people who had the biggest benefits were the ones who drank an extra
glass of water with the knox gelatin.
