Please, if you use a VOM or multimeter for measuring the resistance of water, throw it out after the measurement, or use silver wire for the probes. The probes can be solder or nickel plated, and when you measure the water, the metal can be stripped off and goes into the water. Solder is typically 40% lead, and nickel isn't much better. You don't want to drink either of them.
