One effect I've noticed and speculate on the cause...
If you stir too fast or make CS too slow, hydrogen bubbles don't get a chance to get big enough to bubble off the electrode and particulate silver gets trapped on the surface tension of the hydrogen bubbles creating a semi insulative coating that grows and grows [the "grey fuzzies"] and throws off all attempts to measure conductivity between the electrodes. It can make a fairly strong structure that will sometimes break off and sink. If left undisturbed with power off, the grey chunks usually develop their own ion cloud as the bubbles disintigrate...or, if the structure does not compress to rigidity,[under the pressure of moving water?] some of it will transfer off the surface tension of the bubbles to the surface tension of the water when the electrode s removed [grey floater]
If the grey fuzzies are removed [wiped off] early, they don't tend to return after conductivity reaches a certain point.

Not using the stirrer at first gets conductivity up faster as a cloud develops between the electrodes. I've had very good results with letting the white cloud almost reach the opposite electrode, then turning the stirrer on. That both reduces process time and prevents most grey fuzzies.

If you go fast enough you could sort for particle size; just siphon off the good stuff from the middle of the container.

I like that thinking.

And just think what my CD ROM could do!

just place the CS container on an old recordplayer, and hold still the electrodes and have 33 rmp / 45 rpm what ever you like.
