If you are using the low voltage process and current limiting all you
need is a good laser pointer. The laser beam will be scattered by the
colloidal particles. The beam will be visible in differing levels of
ambient light in direct proportion to ppm of colloidal silver. By the time
you have generated enough colloidal silver for the beam to be seen in
average room light you will have achieved a respectable ppm of colloidal
particles and an ionic concentration that will be at maximum.
It would also be nice to use a voltmeter to measure the voltage across
the electrolysis cell. Once it has dropped to 2 volts or so the process is
done.
Try to get a quality laser pointer, not the key chain type. The class
IIIa 5mW units are best. They are available on ebay constantly at
reasonable prices.
When using constant current, try to stick to the rule of 2 microamps
per square millimeter of surface area.
The best tool you have for making high quality CS yourself is your
own patience. Keep checking it with your laser pointer. At first you will
have to turn off all the lights or get up in the middle of the night to
check it.
