Since the DMSO is so rapidly distributed throughout the tissues of the entire body, it seems that it would pass out of the membranes as easily as it passes in, and balance the osmotic pressure rapidly, rather than build up in any one area.
I am also curious about the solvent effect on the vitreous and aqueous humors. In the animal studies with large long-term doses, the negative effects were in the eye. I think it was the lens that was affected. I am going to write the Jacobsons (? is that their name) and see what they have to say. Perhaps BB will drop by with something.
