The only problem with DW in the eyes etc is that it upsets the saline balance for a few seconds and can be uncomfortable.[Not nearly like swimming in a chlorine pool]
 But it not harmful.
CS stings the eyes and irritates sinuses the same as distilled water does.
Snorting salt water does the same thing but upsets the balance the other way towards too salty.
 No harm there either.

Hello,

I am new here, and really enjoying the list so far. I have also been delving into the archives, in search of some answers. I've personally used CS for years, as has my family - and I've had wonderful results with its use with my pets and livestock as well. I plan to start making my own soon, so that I can afford the higher quantities I need for some self-treatment I want to do.

Anyway, a couple of questions. I have had a chronic sinus infection for years, and it has advanced to an intolerable level. I have been taking CS orally for it, and it does help somewhat. I avoid prescription antibiotics for this. Recently I started using a neti pot to irrigate my sinuses. It's made a world of difference. I would like to add CS to the water that I use, so that I can get that into my sinuses for on the spot treatment, rather than just the oral treatment. My question for you experts - the water that is usually used in the neti is a saline (made with non-iodized sea salt) solution. Would using that solution with the CS cause a problem? If it does, I can probably use plain water (well variety or I could purchase DW) and use the CS in that, but I wouldn't want to go without the benefit of the salt rinse every time. Or perhaps I could just go with a pure CS rinse on occasion. Currently, while using this for treatment, I irrigate 3-4 times a day. Once I get this more under control, I will reduce that to once or twice a day. Thoughts?

Also, I am looking for a way to make a CS ointment - something with more "sticking" ability than the liquid. I've read a couple of options, and I've seen the kit available commercially, but I'm trying to do something inexpensive that doesn't require a degree in chemical engineering. The law degree I'm working toward requires enough of my spare brain cells, thank you :)

I appreciate your suggestions.
