I am making distilled water in a one gallon table top distiller from
www.wholesalewaterfilters.com . I do not have a PWT meter but I do have
a SilverGen SG6 that will read conductance and is suppose to be a test
for the purity of the distilled water. It is not lighting up the light
when I put the SG6 in the pure distilled and turning it on. This is
suppose to indicate an acceptably pure distilled water - right Trem?
Anyway my batches are clear and have no floaties or sinkers so I think
everything is working well.

My well water, that I start with has a hardness of 40 as tested by Sears
and a local water filter dealer. I get about a half a teaspoon (have not
actually measured it) of soft sludge with each batch. I wipe this out
and a couple small spots of hard scale are always left in the same
spots. I soak the unit in 9% vinegar and hot water, about 1:4 to remove
all scale about every six batches or so. You may have to look around for
the 9% vinegar but it does save some money and transportation over the
5%. I use white vinegar.

I have heard that ingesting minerals in water in sufficient quantity is
a load on your system to remove the metallic minerals that your body
does not absorb. Estimates I have seen of absorbtion of this form of
mineral is maybe 10%, probably less. I have also been told but have not
confirmed that the minerals are conjugated by the liver to a more water
soluble form as organic acids. This is extra work for both the liver and
the kidneys which then must filter out the water soluble organic acids.
Sorry I do not have verified info here, maybe someone will pick up on
this thread and tell us more.

I prefer to get my minerals in plant based sources, where they are in
balance and easily absorbed. I grow my own herbs and eat organic
produce, nuts and seeds and mineral rich seaweeds. I add minerals in the
form of seaweed supplements to the herbs I grow.
