In fact, according to the CDC figures, 87% of all cases of polio in the US between 1973 and 1983 (excluding exported cases) were caused by the vaccine. More recently, every case of polio in the US since 1979 (excluding five exported cases) was caused by the vaccine. Three of the five who caught polio during foreign travel were previously vaccinated against the disease.
