Has anyone had any success with humming while closing the mouth to promote better breathing?Yoga? TJ
That's a yoga exercise. I find they improve my breathing powerfully right from the start. Like singing too. ANd more than I could possibly 'know'. The improvement is a change in my being. It's like this: I heard it said (and find its true) we cannot hold the two visions of sickness and well being at the same time. Eg.. Though we vow to be healthy after our flue clears up, we lose those vows. Well, it's hard to know how much better our breathing can go, and with that cure for illness. Blocked breathing is a bit like those famous flu suppressants.
I 've never gone all the way, though, I once did singing practice for months, with long sessions, in the practice called 'Hustler' method which frees the voice, and even emulates animals ( I also practised songs!). Interestingly, on the common, foxes would creep out of the bushes and lie listening to me.
Humming is one exercise. Why a closed mouth is so good as a practise I have not heard, but can only say that it seems to control the muscles down to the solar plexeus in a quiet non-violent way, so the breathing is smooth at the same time, so breathing proceeds well, something we consciously cannot achieve easily. Also it cuts out a lot tension in effort 'to breath well'. Finally, it allows air to pass through the nostrils, and alternate finger placing on each nostril (yogic) whilst breathing in and then out, enhances the process of nostril breathing and clearing initially, as well as calming.
I guess you can see I am enthusiastic about the effects! Quote: On 14 Feb 2005, at 05:41, Himagain wrote:
It is like those famous "flu pills" that dry up runny noses, stop the headache and lower your temperature ......... thus leaving you sick for weeks, instead of a day or two, by stopping all your body's defence mechanisms from working!
