Hello sol and thanks for the suggestion (as well as Mike D. and ode)

I think I will have him help me boil/microwave the water AND water the plants (I want him to do as much as possible) however, I'll have him leave the room and I'll mark the water containers and plants with codes so he doesn't know which is which - he'll just have to water the marked plant with the identicaly marked water container. I will also use glass containers to boil the water in as Mike suggested.

MUCH THANKS everyone for your ideas and input. I'm very excited to do this experiment.

Blessings,
Lea Ann

If he is going to do if for a science exhibit, he really should use a "blind" test, as Ode suggested. Perhaps he could code the plants and the water, and have you do the watering, not knowing which is which.

Soon as I get hold of two identical plants, and figure out how to code them, I'll be doing that--having my husband water them.
Otherwise, intent/belief will affect the results.

Hello Joy,

Can you tell me where you got the directions for the experiment? My 10 year old son is going to do this for his Science Fair Experiment. I'd love to get a copy of the directions.

Thanks in advance.
