With the exception of the New World, it is not as if Saunas are anything of a
novel idea. Before there was "science" there was common sense and intuition.

European and Asian cultures have been utilizing the therapy for centuries,
notably the Russians, Turks, Asians and Europeans - Romans and Greeks. They
were creative enough to design the therapy as a combining of socialization,
hygiene and the mentioned medicinal benefits. They also made it available to
the masses. Westerners come along an suddenly there is a need to prove
efficacy to establish belief of benefits.

Hi Carol Ann.
I agree with everything you said. In my book on sauna therapy, I devote an
entire chapter to other (and ancient) cultures that practiced heat therapy,
steam therapy, and hydrotherapy. In a couple other chapters, I include research
done later by Dr. John Harvey Kellogg.

Sweating to eliminate toxins makes perfect sense to you and to me. But many
medical doctors will not consider sauna therapy unless they have scientific
proof that it works. That's partly why I wrote the book.

Best,
Nenah
