Have you checked your logs to see what the error the other server is actually returning?

their server is currently rejecting it. I've been told their mail admin
claims it is because I lack a PTR record on my domain, so their server is
flagging it as spam.
A PTR Record is just a reverse DNS correct? (I looked it up to double check, and that is still my understanding). I do in fact have that set for my mail server.
Yes.
mail.domain.com is not a sub domain. mail is the host in the domain domain.com. I think your config is correct the way it is.
I do notice two things in the bounced email. 1: SIMS is claiming the domain to be my main domain, as it is set in the SIMS config. But the r-DNS is for the subdomain my mail server actually resides at. So based on the headers, the IP and the given domain are not an exact match. Should my "main domain" in SIMS in fact be the subdomain the server DNS is set to (ie: mail.domain.com vs domain.com).
I'm trying to see what I can do to find the problem and resolve it on my
end before reaching out to the other server admin. It took months to get
them to even look at the issue, and I have to pass thru 3 different
people to even try to find out who the other mail admin is (and there is
a good chance I won't be able to talk to them directly... gotta love
office policts!)
Maybe you can check the actual error message from the server that is rejecting the email. Assuming there is one of course...
Anyone have a clue?
