I would change the name of your SIMS server to mail.subassoc.com as hosts that want to do a rDNS will work better with a host name (any MTA that rejects mail based only on rDNS is broken or badly configured).
Why are you using sims V.1.8b8?

The bmx host is the one that has a problem with reverse. I still would look for a clue from the remote server's response.

Sorry, I should have specified the domain in question. It isn't mythtech.net, it is subassoc.com
mail.subassoc.com points to 68.165.138.67, and 67.138.165.68.IN-ADDR.ARPA
points to mail.subassoc.com (the mythtech one, as you saw, does not have
a matching rdns, that I knew)
