What is Bill's computer? A 3 PFlop Blue Gene/P? A Core 2 duo box from Dell? > In fact, some of us are pretty certain that that (a) current hardware is > adequate, and (b) AGI software will be with us in (much) less than 10 years. That's what many prominent AI people have been claiming for the last half a century, of course. Eventually, that will be even true. But 2017 does not appear a likely time for a human equivalent on a supercomputer, nevermind a consumer beige box. > Some people may be very, very surprised. I will be indeed very surprised. I would be also very surprised if you still remember this statement in 10 years (the last time I saw you was about a decade ago, and you were also doing AI at the time, though I don't recall any particular predictions), and will publicly step forwards, and tell everybody you were wrong. Strangely enough the people with the outrageous predictions tend to conveniently forget them, or fade into the background. ----- This list is sponsored by AGIRI: http://www.agiri.org/email To unsubscribe or change your options, please go to: http://v2.listbox.com/member/?member_id=4007604&user_secret=7d7fb4d8
